President and Texas History Program Director - Dallas, TXPresident and Texas History Program Director for the Summerlee FoundationThe Summerlee Foundation was established by Annie Lee Warren Roberts, a philanthropist, advocate for history and animal rights, and Texas native. Ms. Roberts married Summerfield G. Roberts, and they prospered in banking, oil, and real estate. In 1988, she founded the foundation to support Texas history and to alleviate animal suffering.The President serves as the ambassador for the foundation, managing the annual budget and acting as the liaison between the Board of Directors and the financial advising firm overseeing the foundation's $80 million investment portfolio. Working closely with the Director of Administration, the President ensures adherence to governance standards, oversees audits, compliance, and day-to-day operations. The President also acts as the Program Director for Texas History and oversees the Animal Protection Program to align with the foundation's mission and the founder's intentions.Responsibilities include coordinating three annual board meetings, preparing grant application materials, financial reports, and policy documents for decision-making, representing the foundation publicly, and engaging with relevant organizations in Texas history and the foundation community. The President must stay informed about activities related to the Animal Protection Program.The foundation staff comprises the President, Texas History Program Director, Director of Administration (both based in Dallas), and the Director of Animal Protection (located in Seattle).The President independently manages the Texas History program, including administration, grant management, and program coordination, such as communication with grant seekers, proposal review, and recommendation to the Board. Significant travel for site reviews and meetings is required.Position Requirements

  • Master's degree in history or a related field
  • At least ten years of experience in historical administration, with a focus on Texas history
  • Expertise in non-profit governance, financial management, investment, and fundraising
