Position Summary
Austin, Texas (Hybrid), with Tier 2/3 after-hours on-call
support
As a Database Administrator, you will design, implement, and
maintain database infrastructure in a cloud environment. Your
responsibilities include performance monitoring, capacity planning,
automation, and ensuring the availability, performance, backup,
recovery, and security of AWS RDS databases like MySQL and Amazon
Aurora. You will use tools such as AWS CloudWatch, AWS
CloudFormation, and AWS Lambda, and collaborate closely with the
DevOps team to integrate database solutions with CI/CD
pipelines.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
Must have U.S. Citizenship in order to obtain the post-hire
Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Clearance from the
Federal Bureau of Investigation and must be able to obtain
post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in
the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Justice.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Design and implement database infrastructure in a public cloud
environment, including performance monitoring, capacity planning,
and automation of database-related processes.
Develop and implement migration strategies for AWS RDS databases,
including MySQL and Amazon Aurora.
Plan, script, execute, and support the upgrade and/or migration of
data to new schema structures, database software, or hardware.
Develop scripts to support integration with monitoring tools,
automate backups, and report usage metrics.
Tune MySQL and Amazon Aurora database and query performance.
Ensure 24/7 availability, performance, backup, recovery, and
security of AWS RDS databases.
Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and
access management, encryption, and continuous monitoring.
Troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve database issues in a cloud
environment.
Develop scripts, jobs, stored procedures, and functions to
replicate data to backup databases and purge old data from log
tables.
Test and deploy patches and security updates.
Support the development, deployment, and maintenance of customer
reporting solutions.
Provide technical assistance and support to customers.
Independently troubleshoot system issues and establish call bridges
with appropriate personnel to restore databases to proper operating
condition, documenting all efforts from start to closure.
Support development efforts using knowledge of data structures and
programming languages to help the team develop and integrate new
features and improvements.
Collaborate closely with the DevOps team to integrate database
solutions with CI/CD pipelines and ensure seamless deployment and
operation of applications.
Contribute to documentation and process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related
field, along with at least five (5) years of professional
experience working with cloud-based databases.
Understanding of and experience with best practices related to
migration from on-premises databases to cloud-based
environments.
Deep understanding of and experience with developing and executing
ETL routines to move data between schema structures; AWS RDS
managed databases, including MySQL and Amazon Aurora; cloud-based
deployment and integration technologies like Terraform.
Proficiency with database administration tools and data restoration
tools.
Knowledge of database connection tools and methods.
Experience with database languages (e.g., SQL).
Experience with AWS Multi-AZ deployments, including tools and
technologies for replication and resilience such as: MySQL
RDS/Aurora Global Database for multi-region replication and
disaster recovery, AWS CloudWatch for monitoring and alerting; AWS
Backup for automated backup and recovery. AWS Lambda for automation
and orchestration.
Knowledge of DevOps, continuous delivery, DevSecOps, digital stack,
and platform.
Experience with AWS QuickSight for creating and managing reports,
including data visualization and dashboard creation.
