rapidly growing team of 120 people in Austin, TX, Oxford, UK, and
Melbourne, Australia brings together exceptionally talented and
passionate people in the domains of energy trading, data science,
software engineering and renewable energy management. Habitat
Energy is looking to expand our Operations and Asset Integration
Team with a Mid-or Senior-Level Backend Engineer or SCADA Engineer
in either in our Austin, Texas office or remote. This individual
will play an integral role expanding the Operations function within
ERCOT and into new markets. They will lead SCADA strategy and data
feed management through initial asset integration and during live
operation for more than 1.2 GW/1.7 GWh of grid-scale battery
storage in addition to various wind and solar resources. They will
have an opportunity to interface with client controls teams to
establish strategy for market telemetry and asset monitoring as
well as to scope integration of battery and solar data and modeling
strategy with Habitat Software Engineers and Data Scientists. They
will work alongside experts in physical battery modeling and asset
operations to ensure quality management of client equipment and
will support development of processes with the 24/7 trading team.
Your responsibilities will include: Asset Onboarding and
Integration Lead the technical integration of BESS, wind, and solar
assets into the Habitat platform, ensuring robust connectivity from
site to cloud. Establish telemetry standards using DNP3, Modbus,
and ICCP; interface with client teams to define market-specific
communication architectures. Design and maintain secure data
tunnels (VPN/Edge) to ensure reliable, low-latency remote access to
grid-scale assets. Data Management and Points Configuration Manage
comprehensive SCADA point lists, translating diverse OEM data into
unified schemas for real-time trading and long-term analysis.
Collaborate with Data Scientists to capture high-fidelity battery
health metrics (SoC, SoH, and thermal data) for advanced physical
modeling. Build automated monitoring systems to detect and resolve
data dropouts or signal drift, ensuring "gold-standard" data
integrity for automated dispatch. Operational Process Development
Develop real-time dashboards and SOPs for the 24/7 trading team to
monitor asset health and market compliance. Support the development
and testing of dispatch algorithms to ensure market signals
translate safely into physical hardware actions. Streamline
integration workflows for new markets and establish recovery
protocols for SCADA or communication failures. Requirements
Preferred skills and experience: Interest in the energy sector and
particularly decarbonization technologies Proficient in Excel,
Python, SQL Dashboard design creation experience - Power BI, Python
webapps, etc. Comfort managing large datasets and building tools
Statistical Analysis Ability to work diligently and professionally
under high pressure situations Passion for learning, competition
Interest in working with both engineering and commercial teams
Patience in high energy environments ‘Nice to have’ skills and
experience: Operations Research Background Power Markets
(especially ERCOT) familiarity Battery Health Management Background
Familiarity with basic trading terminology Grid-scale battery
engineering development operations Controls engineering familiarity
Experience with SCADA systems and other HMIs Background in
optimization, ML-based forecasting, data-piping experience Comfort
presenting to clients, board members, prospective clients
