Brief Job Description:

Responsible for managing the daily operations of the assigned field unit of the Juvenile Services Department. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. Assigns all caseload and/or transportation duties to probation officers and ensures compliance with the Texas Family Code and departmental policies and procedures.

Basic Qualification Requirements:

  1. Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field strongly preferred but not required.
  2. Must have bachelor's degree conferred by a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Coordinating Board, Texas College and University system; and must have either: (a) One year of graduate study in criminology, corrections, that has been approved by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; or (b) One year experience in full-time casework or counseling in a social service, community correctional or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons.
  3. Three years' experience as a certified juvenile probation officer preferred.
  4. Supervisory experience preferred.
  5. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and proof of adequate liability insurance, and reliable means of transportation.
  6. Must possess physical stamina to handle potential physical outbursts of violent youth. Be able to restrain and handcuff a child who is resisting.
  7. Must have the ability to work with a diverse population.
  8. Must be of good moral character.
  9. No staff member may possess while on duty any firearm, illegal weapons, or chemical agents.
