Job Description:

**GENERAL PURPOSE**

Develops, coordinates and oversees programming for adults and the general public online and at both libraries; coordinates with the Childrens Services Librarian to develop and conduct childrens programs at the Main Library; assists and supports programming for teens at the Copper Mountain Branch Library; and supervises the Reference staff at the Main Library.

**SUPERVISION EXERCISED**

This position provides daily supervision of a Senior Library Assistant, the Interlibrary Loan Specialist, and a part-time Reference Clerk. This position supervises staff and volunteers assigned to projects in his/her purview, both in the libraries and off-site.

Essential Duties:

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Plan the strategy and direction of the Reference Department at the Main Library so that programming and services are of the highest quality and meet the communitys needs and interests.

Plan, prepare and host story times for preschool and elementary children at the Main Library. Works in conjunction with Childrens Librarian to plan and conduct some online story times.

Plan activities and programs for adults, teens and the general public at the Main Library and off-site; oversee staff assisting with or hosting programs.

Responsible for makerspace at Main Library, from developing and scheduling programs and events to overseeing staff involved in the programs.

Compile and analyze statistics pertaining to library programs.

Investigate and develop plans for new or expanded services; recommend changes to existing services for youth or adults.

Evaluate execution and effectiveness of library programs and perform after-action audits.

Establish and maintain a collegial and productive relationship with the Childrens Services Librarian, communicating and collaborating regularly.

Document and handle conflict situations appropriately and consistently, including disciplinary procedures and patron complaints, working cooperatively with Library Management and Human Resources to address and resolve such situations in a timely manner.

Provide bibliographic instruction, readers advisory service and reference assistance to customers and assist in the use of technology and online resources.

Oversee scheduling of Reference staff to ensure that the Main Library has an adequate level of staffing for all shifts.

Adhere to, support, and effectively implement City and Library policy, procedures, and values; and communicate them to staff and to customers.

Oversee training and supervision of interns, volunteers and Texas Workforce workers at both libraries.

Work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Library Services to select materials for middle and high school readers.

Provide professional collection development of the adult fiction genres and graphic novels at both libraries.

Perform additional tasks and assignments, as required by the Assistant Director of Library Services and Director of Library Services.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

1. Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program; 2. Two (2) years of professional experience in a public, academic, or school library, 3. One (1) year of supervisory experience; and 4. Valid class C drivers license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Extensive knowledge of the principles of basic library practices and philosophy; 2. Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment; 3. Ability to interact productively and positively with all ages; 4. Ability to plan and implement library programming; 5. Strong communication skills, both oral and written; 6. Ability to handle stressful situations; 7. Strong computer skills including standard office applications, database searching and navigation, and basic computer instruction skills. 8. Able to maintain regular and punctual attendance
