  • Assist the pharmacist in preparation and activities related to repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications.
  • Perform tasks associated with dispensing medications appropriate for patient ages served (0-adult).
  • Assist in procurement, record keeping, storage, and distribution of controlled substances.
  • Ensure appropriateness of medication doses by correctly entering patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area.
  • Follow aseptic technique and infection control in preparation of sterile products.
  • Complete annual recertification and achieve at least 90% on aseptic technique/infection control skills and written exam.
  • Ensure medications prepared are correct as verified by pharmacist and documented by lack of dispensing errors.
  • Demonstrate competence at batch/medication/prescription order entry.
  • Work with Pharmacy Support Services to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies.
  • Follow procedures for stock replacement and nonformulary procedures.
  • Obtain pharmacist initial/final checks and assign dilution and expiration dating labels according to department standards.

    • Knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for handling pharmaceuticals.
    • Math skills, reading skills, and good communication skills.
    • Ability to operate equipment used in preparation of sterile products.
