External Description:
The Outpatient CDI Coding Auditor (remote) is proficient in all types of coding and is responsible for performing coding quality audits, providing feedback to coders, and educating coders. The Coding Auditor utilizes the International Classification of Disease (ICD-10 CM & PCS) and Physicians Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and other coding references to ensure accurate coding and Diagnosis Related Group (MS-DRG and APR-DRG) assignment. The Coding Auditor reviews, researches and helps develop billing edits.. The Coding Auditor reviews denied claims for proper coding and makes recommendations for process improvement based on these findings. The Coding Auditor is also responsible for using these findings to create physician education.

WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Perform coding quality reviews, provides feedback to coders, and educates coders. Perform coding quality reviews in collaboration with or for internal divisions of the organization. Provides feedback and education as appropriate depending on findings. Analyze and interpret documentation from medical records and completes accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures. Abstract and validate required data elements into the coding and abstracting screens/system. Communicate with providers for missing documentation or questions regarding documentation and offers guidance and education when needed. Review, research, and process billing edits working collaboratively with revenue cycle departments to ensure coding and edits are processed timely and accurately. Review and edit charges. Work collaboratively with HIM to communicate opportunities for accurate, complete and compliant documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD, CPT, and DRG. Able to complete accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures and perform quality reviews. Able to collaborate, educate and provide constructive feedback. Able to work in a fast-paced environment, flexibility to handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Attention to detail and accuracy of data input. Independent, self-motivated, able to work under pressure & meet challenges. Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in the use of computers; must be proficient with Epic EMR, MS Word and PowerPoint, and a basic knowledge of MS Excel.

The ideal Candidate will be able to work remotely and meet deadlines, must be self-sufficient; have effective time management skills; be able to work between the hours of 7:30am and 5pm M-F Central time

--- H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
--- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, COC, CIC or CIRCC certification required
--- Minimum of 5 years of related experience required, including at least 1 (one) year of experience auditing of coding
--- 2 years of education may suffice for 2 years of experience
--- Preferred --- 3-5 years of healthcare experience, with at least 2 in outpatient medical coding, billing and/or revenue cycle
--- Experience with Epic EMR / electronic health record a plus
--- Preference given to those with clinical background and experience
